About Mayfield School

Mayfield School is located in Ilford, London.

There are 12 forms in year 7, 8 and 9 and 10 forms in year 10 and 11. There are around 30 pupils in each class. There are 8 form groups for the 6th form students, with 20 students or less in each form.

Facilities include school libraries, specialist Drama, Mathematics, Music and IT rooms, MFL department, Art rooms, Science Laboratories, and humanities such as; business, geography, history and R.S.

Singer Jessica Ellen Cornish, known as Jessie J, attended the school from 1999 until 2004. Comments she later made about gang-related gun and knife crime and racial attacks at the school were described by Rehling as “just wrong”; he said that he and other staff were unaware of any such incidents.

For 2021 Entry into Mayfield School year 7 will use the ISEB Pre-test.

Registration Deadlines & Examination Dates

The Deadline for registration is by Saturday 31st October 2020. The ISEB Pre-test can be taken by November.

In addition to the ISEB test, there will be an interview with the Head as part of their assessment.

About the ISEB Common Pre-test

The tests take about two-and-a-half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes) and can be taken together or at separate times, either in the candidate’s own school or at the senior school for which he or she is entered

ISEB Pre-Test Format:  

The test is taken on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions. It is broken down into four parts: 

  1. English – 25 minutes(reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation) 
  2. Mathematics – 50 minutes(in line with Year 5 of the UK National Curriculum) 
  3. Non-Verbal Reasoning – 32 minutes(shape analogies, classes like, horizontal codes) 
  4. Verbal Reasoning – 36 minutes(common words, antonyms, word combinations, letter transfer and number codes)
