About James Allen's Girls' School

James Allen’s Girls’ School, abbreviated JAGS, is an independent day school situated in Dulwich, South London, England. It is the oldest girls’ independent school in Greater London.

It is a registered charity and was originally part of Edward Alleyn’s College of God’s Gift charitable foundation, which also included Alleyn’s School and Dulwich College.

It has a senior school for 11- to 18-year-old girls, a prep school for 7- to 11-year-old girls (James Allen’s Preparatory School), and a pre-preparatory school for 4- to 7-year-old girls. It is the sister school of Dulwich College and Alleyn’s.

For 2021 Entry into James Allen’s Girls’ School year 7 will use the ISEB Pre-test.

Registration Deadlines & Examination Dates

The Deadline for registration is by the end of October. The ISEB Pre-test can be taken between November and early January at either the candidates school. However, for candidates from primary school will take their exam at James Allen’s Girls’ School.

About the ISEB Common Pre-test

The tests take about two-and-a-half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes) and can be taken together or at separate times, either in the candidate’s own school or at the senior school for which he or she is entered

ISEB Pre-Test Format:  

The test is taken on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions. It is broken down into four parts: 

  1. English – 25 minutes(reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation) 
  2. Mathematics – 50 minutes(in line with Year 5 of the UK National Curriculum) 
  3. Non-Verbal Reasoning – 32 minutes(shape analogies, classes like, horizontal codes) 
  4. Verbal Reasoning – 36 minutes(common words, antonyms, word combinations, letter transfer and number codes)
