All students are recommended the ISEB pre-test for potential entry to City of London School Â
The City of London School, also known as CLS and City, is an independent day school for boys in the City of London, England. It is a partner school of the City of London School for Girls and the City of London Freemen’s School. All three schools receive funding from the City’s Cash. It is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC). It is one of the most academically selective and successful schools in the country.
The school was founded by a private Act of Parliament in 1834, following a bequest of land in 1442 for poor children in the City of London.Â
Admissions are based on an entrance examination and an interview.
Former pupils, known as Old Citizens, who have attained eminence in various fields are prime minister H. H. Asquith, First World War hero Theodore Bayley Hardy, Nobel Prize–winning scientists Frederick Gowland Hopkins and Peter Higgs, Justice of the Supreme Court Lawrence Collins, Historian John Robert Seeley, England cricket captain Mike Brearley and Booker Prize-winning authors Kingsley Amis and Julian Barnes, Hollywood film director Michael Apted, and actor Daniel Radcliffe.
City of London School has six Houses.Â
The school offers many extracurricular activities. These include over 50 clubs and societies including a Model United Nations, public speaking and debating society which frequently participates in international competitions, and the Square Mile Club which in the past has attracted notable speakers.

For 2021 Entry into City of London School year will use the ISEB Pre-test.
The Deadline for registration is by Friday 2nd October 2020. The ISEB Pre-test can be taken any time before the end of November 2020 at either the candidates school or City of London School.
In addition to the ISEB test, potential candidates that has satisfactory performance will be invited to the school for a short-written assessment in Mathematics and English and an interview. A confidential report from the Head of the candidate’s current school is also needed as an additional requirement.
The tests take about two-and-a-half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes) and can be taken together or at separate times, either in the candidate’s own school or at the senior school for which he or she is entered
The test is taken on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions. It is broken down into four parts:Â
