About Queens College

Queen’s College is an independent school for girls aged 11–18 with an adjoining prep school for girls aged 4–11 located in the City of Westminster, London. Founded in 1848 by theologian and social reformer Frederick Denison Maurice along with a committee of patrons, the College was the first institution in the world to award academic qualifications to women. In 1853, it also became the first girls’ school to be granted a Royal Charter for the furtherance of women’s education. Ever since, the College patron has been a British queen; the current patron is Queen Elizabeth II.

For 2021 Entry into Queens College year 7 will use the ISEB Pre-test.

Registration Deadlines & Examination Dates

The Deadline for registration is by Wednesday 18th November 2020 . The ISEB Pre-test can be taken any time before Friday 18th December 2020 at either the candidates school or Queens College.

In addition to the ISEB test, girls are invited to Queens College in January and resentences will also be taken from the candidates school. The exam, interview and the reference provided by the candidates school will be used in paining a complete picture of the girl to assess their potential and suitability to attend Queens Gate.

About the ISEB Common Pre-test

The tests take about two-and-a-half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes) and can be taken together or at separate times, either in the candidate’s own school or at the senior school for which he or she is entered

ISEB Pre-Test Format:  

The test is taken on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions. It is broken down into four parts: 

  1. English – 25 minutes(reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation) 
  2. Mathematics – 50 minutes(in line with Year 5 of the UK National Curriculum) 
  3. Non-Verbal Reasoning – 32 minutes(shape analogies, classes like, horizontal codes) 
  4. Verbal Reasoning – 36 minutes(common words, antonyms, word combinations, letter transfer and number codes)
