About Alleyn's School

Alleyn’s School is a 4–18 co-educationalindependentChurch of Englandday school and sixth form in DulwichLondon, England. It is a registered charity and was originally part of Edward Alleyn‘s College of God’s Gift charitable foundation, which also included James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS) and Dulwich College.[4]

It has been a member school of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference since 1919.

For 2021 entry into Alleyn’s School year 7 will use the ISEB Pre-test.

Registration Deadlines & Examination Dates

The Deadline for registration is by Friday 6th November 2020 . The ISEB Pre-test can be taken any time before Saturday 5th December2020 at either the candidates school or Alleyn’s School.

In addition to the ISEB test, head teachers will be asked to provide us with a confidential report on each of the pupils applying to Alleyn’s, these important assessments and insights will form a crucial element of our selection procedure.

There will also be a virtual interview or in person at Alleyn’s if conditions allow. Those students whose assessment results and school report shows that they will prosper both inside and outside of Alleyn’s classroom.

About the ISEB Common Pre-Test

The tests take about two-and-a-half hours to complete (English 25 minutes, mathematics 50 minutes, non-verbal reasoning 32 minutes, verbal reasoning 36 minutes) and can be taken together or at separate times, either in the candidate’s own school or at the senior school for which he or she is entered

ISEB Pre-Test Format:  

The test is taken on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions. It is broken down into four parts: 

  1. English – 25 minutes(reading comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation) 
  2. Mathematics – 50 minutes(in line with Year 5 of the UK National Curriculum) 
  3. Non-Verbal Reasoning – 32 minutes(shape analogies, classes like, horizontal codes) 
  4. Verbal Reasoning – 36 minutes(common words, antonyms, word combinations, letter transfer and number codes)
